FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

 What is "Vava Vu?"

Vava Vu is short for Vava Voom: That quality that you can not describe, but you know it when you see it.   When you go to a site that has Vava Vu, you like it, you want to bookmark it (go ahead, it's OK), and you want to come and visit it again.

What does the Vava.vu web service do?

When you rate the web sites associated with any tag, you tell us that one of them has more of a quality (We call them 'Tags') than the other site.  We accumulate these votes and use them to rank each site on any of these qualities.  Very soon, the best will come up to the top.

How do I know it works?

Because you are the ultimate judge of what you want and what you like.  We show you a few sites that we select for you to judge, and you tell us what you think.  You, along with thousands of other users, generate an iron clad, accurate list of what really is happening out there on the web.

How do I find my favorite web site's ranking?

Easy: Enter it on our Suggest a Site page, if it is in our database, we will show you the current vava.vu score.

How do you select the sites I am ranking?

We select two sites where at least one of them has a vava.vu rating that is less accurate: it may not have received enough votes.  When you make your vote, the accuracy of our rating improves.  This way we both win, we get a more accurate picture of what really is important to you, and you get a varied, more interesting,  web experience.

This is fun, I could rate sites all day!

Yes, it is true.   Vava vu is fun.  You never really know what site you will go to next, except that it is a tag area of your choice.  You will go to new sites that could be fun, could be boring: you tell us what you like and what you do not like.  Vava Vu can actually bring back the fun of web surfing!

So why are you doing this?

Well, It's like this: I have a web site on relationships and romance.  I wanted to compare the other sites to mine to see what was better and how I could improve my own site.  I thought if I could rate each site, side by side, I might be able to come up with a top ten list to put up on my site.

But then I thought: maybe everybody could rate sites in their own areas of interest.  That way, the list of the top ten would be the ones that really count!  And so, the idea of  vava.vu was born.

 What about member ship levels?

There are several levels:

  • Any person is invited to rate our listings.  You don't need to be a member or log in.  You can also suggest a new site to start it getting rankings.
  • Our first level of membership is Voter.  It allows you to subscribe to our newsletters that we send out  telling of the top categories and the ranking in them
  • Our second level is a Registered Voter.  In addition, you can list up to five tag areas and we will send you a weekly top ten list for each tag.
  • Our third level is Umpire.  An umpire wants to track the win/loss behavior of a specific site.  An umpire can select up to five sites and receive exactly how many votes it has received that week in any of the areas (tags) that apply to that site.  An umpire is also allowed to edit the title and description of a site to make it more accurate.
  • Our fourth level is Promoter.  A promoter is the owner of a web site and wants to get a more accurate vava vu rating.  We will give that owner as many ratings as needed to give a very accurate vava vu score: high or low.  We will tell him if his site is great or rotten!  We will send a detailed list of which sites won or lost in each rating.  That way the owner can improve the contents and look of the site.  The site owner wins because of the accurate feedback we send, and you win because the owner can improve the site!
  • The fifth level is Predictor.  A predictor will be able to put information in our newsletters and blog entries to tell you what is happening.  New sites to check out.  New tags that have taken the web by storm.

What does membership cost?

Currently we do not have a cost for each membership level, and we allow a member to change to the level of their choice.  We do ask for a paypal donation and that is strictly on the honor system.

 How old is Vava Vu?

Vava vu has been created in August of 2008, and is currently under daily development.  Features may change.  Be warned.  We will keep our membership notified of any problems, improvements or other happenings as we work on the site.  Our database of sites and tags is growing daily, and we need more accurate scores for our Vava Vu ratings.  Help us out by rating sites, and please, don't forget the donation, OK?
